A Victory for Pillow-Loving Wives Everywhere

Rick has this thing about pillows. He thinks we have too many. To me, though, our couch and chairs would be totally boring without them, which is why I’ve made a million of them (like these and this one), and I have no problem flinging them to the side if they are in my way. Rick, however, has continued to lovingly maintain that they are absolutely unnecessary, that they are a nuisance, that they make him get migraines, etc. etc.

UNTIL.

Until an epic turning point the other evening when he glanced at the new-ish chair in our bedroom…

…and uttered the following earth-shattering statement:

“I hate to say this, but that chair looks naked without a pillow.”

Wait. Let me try that again, this time emphasizing the sheer magnitude of his confession:

“I hate to say this, but that chair looks naked without a pillow.”

WIN.

Let’s cover that poor girl up, shall we? Yes, she is a girl. Her name is Eve. (Ha?)

Okay, maybe not like that. Maybe like this, instead:

Where do you stand on the Great Pillow Debate?  Do you love them, or fear death by cushioning? Is there anything in your house that your significant other proclaims to loathe? Spill. :)

(The chair, by the way, is the Ravenna Chair in Atlantic Blue, purchased from World Market after stashing it in my bookmarks like a year ago and waiting for it to go on sale ever since then.)

    2. I love love love World Market.
    3. Your husband is slowly, but surely, coming over to the dark side (where the pillows always win) but don't tell him I said that! (insert evil maniacal laugh here. bwahahahaha)

  2. Ha. This is funny because it sounds exactly like our house! I have yet to hear such sweet words from the man of my house though....I will keep piling on pillows and hope that he will learn to love them!

  3. Haha! Love it! My husband still isn't on the pillow train, but this gives me hope! Love the pillow and chair!

  5. I'm team pillows. I love making them... I love having them around... I love seeing them.

  6. Ha! Victory is yours!! I'm a pillow gal too. Some day I will learn how to make them. That day is not today. I'll just adore yours from afar instead.

  7. Thanks for giving the chair stats b/c I saw it and needed to know immediately. I am a pillow lover too. Just can't have enough.

  8. While I do agree the pillows add a "cozy, warm" feel to the rooms, I am still anti-pillowish, in that I can't sit on our couch without one of them falling off/being knocked off by myself or the felines that share my point of view.

Husband's interpretation of the post: Pillows are great to look at and use under your head at night. They are not, however, fun comfortable things to sit next to. I would like to request that the writer of this post show readers the picture of things buried by the mountain of pillows on our couch!

    1. Um, you can't go back on your words now! You declared the need for pillows, which is the step right before falling madly in love, I'm pretty sure. And the cats don't share your point of view. They told me so this morning.

Plus, look at the comments...you are outnumbered. ;)

      xoxo,
      The writer of this post.

ps--I'd share those pictures you mentioned but the camera is buried. By pillows. Sad.

  9. Haha! Go you! I put together my first pillows over the weekend http://www.attemptsatdomestication.com/call-me-kim-possible/ and my husband asked if we really NEEDED that many. I feel a pillow war coming in my house!

    1. The answer is always YES, we DO, in fact, need this many. Maybe even more. I suggest pillows as the perfect ammunition for a pillow war. ;)

  10. I'm pro pillow. They add depth and are a nice way to add color without commitment. Plus, I have plenty of places (under my coffee table on an ottoman) to store them when they aren't in use. I hate piling them on the floor.

  11. Love pillows! Totally with you on this one for chairs, sofas, etc. I can do without a bunch of them on the bed though- while I love the way it looks, I hate removing them all in order to go to sleep. Maybe I'm alone in that but that is where I stand.

    1. I definitely agree. The fewer the better on the bed! And the same goes for cats. :P

  12. I love that Rick commented on this! Too funny :) Pillows work perfectly for your chair and for huge couches that pull you in! The hubster hasn't yet stated his hate for pillows or for anything else I've got in the house, but it's only a matter of time ;)

  13. I happen to love pillows. My boyfriend on the other hand is the same as the former Rick. I still make them and put them everywhere though.

Love the chair! Especially with the pillow. The bikini wasn't too bad either.

  14. Pillows add character to the furniture, as well as can help a piece of furniture match another part of the room, with the right colors!

Love the bikini look! Maybe make some pillows for the chair for this summer?

  15. Whatever are you going to do without Picnik? I will miss chairs in bikinis.

Nate loathes curtains. But I think it's really hanging curtains.

Way to take the win for the ladies on this one!

    1. Yeah, Rick doesn’t really enjoy hanging curtains either, so yesterday I took it into my own hands to hang the curtain rods, and ended up with a hole in the wall that wasn’t even in the right spot AND a stripped drill bit. Oops…

  16. I adore pillows - I could be smothered by them and still love it =)

  17. I'm laughing at His comment on the interpretation of this whole pillow debacle! I love the pillow, the chair, and the bikini on the chair ;)

  18. VICTORY!!

Yesterday I caught Andy laying on the couch USING three pillows at once. Totally out of character. If it happens again, I'm taking a picture and keeping it as evidence.

  19. The great pillow debate! I like most pillows. The cushier the better. Making new pillow covers is on my to-do list. I know they'd be easy, I just need to sit down and do it. I have plenty of fabric to choose from.

I also wanted to tell you I love the new header. I know it changed a while ago, but can't remember if I told you I love it! The blue ampersand is so perfect.

    1. Thanks Mallory! And yes, pillows are so easy! Too easy, almost... :)

  20. I love that chair. It has sexy curved legs! If you have sexy curved legs you must have a pillow to distract the eye.

  21. Oh Rick, welcome to the dark side. My husband also hates all the pillows but resigned himself to his fate many years ago!
